AC drive market posts record year

Despite global economic woes, a strong, consumer-driven North American economy pushed the ac drive market over the $1.1 billion mark in 1998, according to a Sept. 10 report by ARC Advisory Group. The study, “AC Drive Outlook for North America—Market Analysis and Forecast through 2003,” states rapid technology advancements, compact products, and aggressive pricing have made ac drives a viable solution for many applications in nearly every industry. It projects North America’s ac drive market will grow over 9.5% in the next five-year period.

The report adds—as price-conscious users demand faster investment returns—competitively priced, energy efficient ac drives soar in popularity. Likewise, stiff competition and hardware’s evolution into a commodity are exerting downward pressure on prices. This is also encouraging drive suppliers to combine drives with services, such as improved maintenance and repair by on- or near-site personnel.
