The drop in oil prices over the past year has added pressure to the process sector. Optimizing CAPEX, OPEX and managing risk become one of the most important challenges. With the release of ProSafe-RS R4.01, a solution platform that exceeds the capabilities of conventional safety instrumented system (SIS), plant operators can be assured of an optimum environment (remove uncertainty and waste) from plant design, realization, installation, operation, and maintenance.

N-IO, Smart Configurable I/O: With a conventional I/O module, different models are required to support various signal type. This has result in impact to cost and schedule whenever there is change in signal type requirement, which is unavoidable in project realization.

The N-IO mitigates the cost and schedule impact by fulfilling the functions of smart configurable I/O, enabling software marshalling and flexible I/O assignment solely through software settings. Thus it is no longer necessary to replace the I/O module, thereby eliminating the work of rewiring and time for sourcing IO module.

In additional, each channel can be disconnected via a switch in the N-IO baseplate and field cables can be directly connected thus eliminating the terminal block and save space. Also, due to the capabilities of supporting various signal type via software settings, spare inventory can be kept to a minimum.

With respect to installation activity, field devices connecting to N-IO can be commissioned without the presence of the controller therefore IO cabinets can be shipped out earlier while the controller (CPU) remains in Factory to continue with the application Factory Acceptance Test. With this feature of flexible binding, application testing and hardware commissioning can take place simultaneously thus save significant time and provide added versatility in project execution.
