Hardened PoE Ethernet switch
New industrial grade EDS-P510 PoE Ethernet switch from Moxa withstands harsh and outdoor environments.
Moxa, a provider of industrial networking solutions, has launched its new EDS-P510 Gigabit PoE (power over Ethernet) managed Ethernet switch. The EDS-P510 is equipped with four IEEE 802.3af compliant PoE ports and provides connected devices with up to 15.4 watts of PoE power per port. The ability to transmit data and power simultaneously saves on wiring costs, and the industrial grade design make it especially suitable for harsh and outdoor environments.
Moxa says the EDS-P510 provides three advanced power management functions:
• A PD (powered device) failure recovery function detects the status of connected powered devices. When a PD fails or shuts down, the EDS-P510 can reset and re-activate the device to ensure that it works properly. (Watch a video demonstration of this function.)
• A timetabling function that allows the user to configure a PD to work at specific times rather than letting it run continuously.
• A power-limit function avoids situations where connected devices exceed a pre-set limit and could cause power overload problems. When the function is active and a new device is connected to the switch, other devices will be disconnected automatically based on user-defined priorities or on a next-port basis.
The EDS-P510 comes with three combo Gigabit Ethernet ports (two ports for redundant ring and one for uplink) that can be used to form a redundant Gigabit ring and uplink. The company adds that using SFP ports ensure high-bandwidth transmission for both data and video, making the EDS-P510 an excellent choice for outdoor applications that involve connecting devices such as IP cameras, APs, and intercoms. Such applications can benefit from the EDS-P510’s scalable backbone construction and PoE support.
