Invensys agreement delivers new interface that improves multi-phase flow simulation, enhancing design, control system checkout, and operator training.
Invensys Operations Management has introduced an improved interface for multi-phase flow simulation for the upstream oil and gas market. The new solution links OLGA—a simulator for modeling and simulating the flow of oil, water and gas in wells, pipelines and receiving facilities from SPT Group—and Invensys Operations Management’s SimSci-Esscor Dynsim simulation program.
The combination helps engineers more easily model integrated operations of subsea production systems and topside processing facilities, such as platforms, subsea-to-beach plants, and new floating liquid natural gas plants. Furthermore, the solution can be used to virtually test and model the plant’s integrated process and control systems to reduce control system commissioning time, and it supports the development of high-fidelity training of control room operators.
"The new interface includes improved numerical integration, easy-to-use, drag-and-drop configuration, and the ability to view dynamic profiles of key parameters of the OLGA pipeline model from within the Dynsim program," said Tobias Scheele, vice president of advanced applications for Invensys.
The two companies also plan to integrate the Dynism simulation program under SPT Group’s edpm online solution, which enables high-quality modeling for online monitoring and advisory of integrated multiphase production and processing facilities. Knut Erik Spilling, senior vice president of e-Field Solutions for SPT Group, said, "The Dynsim program includes an easy-to-use interface that provides excellent visualization features. A superb integrated engineering and operator training simulator needs to have the capabilities of high accuracy, speed and numerical robustness. OLGA and Dynsim technology will successfully meet that need."
OLGA is a dynamic modeling tool that has been used in more than 30 operator training simulator projects worldwide, says Spilling, and edpm is becoming an industry standard for multiphase dynamic production management systems. Using OLGA in an online environment, edpm provides operators and engineers with information from parts of the production system that instrumentation cannot reach; this allows the deployment of advanced operation advisors for solving defined flow assurance problems. Currently, edpm is used on 20 projects around the world, ranging from gas-condensate and deepwater oil systems to advanced drilling operations.
