Alternative energy producer selects Siemens to provide control infrastructure for three new biochemical facilities.
Novus Energy has announced that it has selected Siemens Industry, Inc. to supply the full scope of electrification, Simatic PCS 7 process automation , and instrument measurement technologies for three new biochemical production facilities. Now in the design phase of development, the facilities will convert various agricultural residues into green fuel, clean water, and organic fertilizer. Novus expects to begin construction this year of its first plant in Canada.
Novus Energy president John Offerman anticipates working closely with Siemens as the company works to meet growing national and international demands for alternative fuels and fertilizer. He says, "Siemens has been instrumental in developing the automation systems, including graphics, for our NBC (Novus bio-catalytic) process that converts organic waste into biogas, fertilizer, and clean water."
The NBC process breaks down various forms of cellulose and hemicellulose. The nutrients are collected in a biodigester and sold as clean, organic fertilizer. The system also produces large volumes of biogas that can be used as a local sustainable energy source or as a feedstock to produce ethanol and higher alcohols.
