Emerson announced the Emerson NI USRP X420, a software defined radio (SDR) for radar systems, satellite communications and 6G research. This is important for Control Engineering subscribers because tools that help with testing of higher-performance wireless communications like 6G eventually will benefit industrial applications.
The X420 extends the NI USRP product line with frequency coverage up to 20 GHz, including FR3, Ku and X bands, for applications such as multi-channel radar, non-terrestrial networks (NTN) and integrated sensing and communications (ISAC).
The X420 provides high RF performance in a software-defined platform designed for research, prototyping and deployment. With wide frequency coverage, high instantaneous bandwidth and phase-coherent multi-channel operation, it supports development and validation of multi-channel RF systems in aerospace, defense, wireless communications and academia.
The LO sharing feature supports aerospace and defense applications that require phase coherence for beamforming, MIMO radar and distributed sensing architectures. By reducing external synchronization hardware, the X420 can shorten prototyping time, reduce system cost and simplify scaling multi-channel designs.
