NewTek GE Series spring-loaded LVDTs measure linear displacement for structural health monitoring. The sensors can be used to monitor the condition and behavior of buildings, bridges and other civil engineering structures during construction and ongoing operation. The measurements allow engineers to track changes in the position or deformations in structural components over time.
During construction, GE series spring-loaded LVDTs can be integrated into a structural health monitoring (SHM) system to measure vertical or horizontal deflections, settlement and other structural movements. The data can help engineers evaluate how a structure responds as construction progresses and loads are added.
For bridges, LVDTs can be installed to measure the deflection of bridge girders and decks as construction loads are applied. They can also monitor movement in piers, bearings and other load-bearing components. Engineers can compare measured structural behavior with design predictions and identify movement or deformation that differs from expected values.
After construction, the sensors can continue to collect data for long-term structural health monitoring. The data can help track changes in structural behavior and identify movements that may require further inspection or evaluation.
Bridge bearings and expansion joints are examples of components for which displacement measurements can support monitoring activities.
