Cambridge, Mass. – Venturcom Inc. announced the availability of RTX 5.1 for Windows XP Embedded on Nov. 28. RTX 5.1 for Windows XP Embedded extends the operating system to mission-critical environments. It includes added support for Windows XP Professional, integration with Microsoft Corp.’s (Redmond, Wa.) Visual Studio Debugger, and RTX shared multi-processor support.

Other RTX 5.1 features include:

ISA plug-and-play support;

PCI plug-and-play support;

User interface for the tools and controls;

Unified installation framework; and

Operating system independent licensing.

‘Venturcom’s RTX real time-tool kit has been an excellent choice for Microsoft’s customers who require deterministic control in their mission critical applications,’ said Jim Allchin, group vp of Platforms, Microsoft. ‘RTX 5.1 for Windows XP Embedded will enable OEMs to build next-generation Windows powered solutions, on the latest Windows platform, that demand real-time performance.’

RTX Visual Studio provides developers the ability to debug kernel resident real-time programs and drivers using Visual Studio Debugger Version 6.0 or later with VS service pack 5 (vs6sp5). In multiprocessor systems, the RTX-shared multi-processor feature allows for the sharing of real-time and Windows processing on the RTX CPU. This allows Windows-based applications to use the idle time on the RTX CPU.

RTX 5.1 SDK now comes bundled with Venturcom’s TimeView 2.0.1 and Platform Evaluator 1.0.1 tools in a single developer tool kit, allowing developers to choose at installation time those tools that best meet the development tasks at hand. Additionally, the RTX 5.1 SDK includes a RTX 5.1 run-time, which allows developers to easily test real-time applications on the same computer utilized for development.

‘Businesses are increasingly relying on embedded computing, which is driving demand for real-time embedded functionality,’ said Myron Zimmerman, Venturcom’s cto. ‘By providing the industry’s most complete real-time embedded tools in the native Windows environment, we enable Venturcom users to develop tailored applications quickly. Building on tremendous market response for RTX on Windows NT Embedded 4.0 and Windows 2000-based systems, we expect even more OEMs will adopt RTX 5.1 for Windows XP Embedded as their real-time solution for advanced embedded equipment.’
