What Makes Daniel an Engineering Leader
Daniel (Dan) is an integral part of the Seeq team, both internally and externally. Through his deep expertise in the power industry and his commitment to innovation and upskilling, he has advanced Seeq and the broader engineering community.
At Seeq, Dan champions a culture of learning and collaboration, embodying the company’s core value of continual improvement. Externally, he partners with end users to develop advanced analytics ecosystems for industrial operations and mentors engineers in blending domain knowledge with data expertise. He also plays a prominent role in the engineering community, frequently speaking at conferences on how analytics and industrial AI are transforming operations.
Achievements, Advancements & Career-related Industry Contributions
After earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Dan began his career in 2016 as a system and performance engineer at Ontario Power Generation (OPG). Over nearly a decade, he led strategic technical initiatives, including analytics integration for nuclear and hydropower plants. He also directed cross-functional teams in deploying AI-driven process health and reliability tools that reduced downtime and improved plant performance.
His leadership earned him the OPG Chief Nuclear Officer Award for implementing condition-based maintenance using advanced sensor data analytics, which delivered significant cost savings and resource optimization. He was also recognized with the 2022 Canadian Nuclear Society Innovation Achievement Award and the AVEVA Catch of the Year Award for innovation and excellence.
In 2024, Dan transitioned to the technology sector, joining Seeq as a senior analytics engineer. Leveraging his power industry experience, he quickly helped customers unlock value from data through advanced analytics and AI. Within a year, he was promoted to Seeq industry principal and named Q1 2025 Analytics Engineer of the Quarter.
Through thought leadership and collaboration, Dan continues to champion the next generation of plant engineers by promoting digital tool adoption and fostering multidisciplinary teamwork.
Non-work-related Activities & Hobbies
Dan is a musician and formerly played drums in the Toronto-based indie-rock band First Ghost, which released three EPs and toured across Canada and the U.S. While the band is no longer active, he continues to play drums daily at home as a creative outlet. In the past year, drumming has also become a way for him to bond with his young daughter, who is showing a growing interest in music.
Interesting Details
Beyond Seeq, Dan actively engages with the global engineering community. He has advised and authored guidelines through organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In April 2025, he contributed as a Canadian government–delegated technical consultant and co-author to the IAEA’s published guidelines on deploying AI in the nuclear power industry.
His dedication to advancing best practices is also evident in his role as co-chair and frequent presenter at the Canadian Nuclear Society’s Disruptive, Innovative, and Emerging Technology (DIET) Conference.
Why Daniel Chose This Career
Dan chose this career to combine his passions for hands-on engineering, data and AI, and cross-disciplinary teamwork in the power industry. He believes advanced analytics can transform traditional manufacturing by improving safety, reliability, and sustainability.
Starting as a mechanical engineer in power plants, he developed coding and analytics skills—initially through music projects—that evolved into leadership roles in analytics. Today at Seeq, he says his role “levels up engineering and analytics teams” and expands his impact on industrial innovation. As Dan explains, “I love my current role because it brings everything together to solve global energy problems with brilliant people and real-world impact.”
