Coordinated external axis control for welding applications
Coordinated motion between a moving part on a rotary axis and an external collaborative robot can allow for more complex welding operations to be performed without the need for assistance from manual operators. See video.
Speaking at Fabtech 2023, Bryan Bird, regional president for the Americas at Universal Robots, discussed the benefits of coordinating the motion of collaborative robots with an external axis. “We’re able to take a part that would normally require an operator to remove it from the table and refixture it to complete a weld, and instead complete it in a single pass by moving both the part and the robot at the same time,” Bird said.
