Siemens has announced updates to Siemens Industrial Edge ecosystem, including data and AI integration and updated cybersecurity features. These changes support integration between IT and Operational Technology (OT) environments, improve efficiency and help reduce operational interruptions.
AI integration and decentralized SCADA
The Siemens Industrial AI Suite, based on Industrial Edge, is now generally available. It provides infrastructure for deploying industrial AI applications and for scaling and managing AI models across locations. The Industrial AI Suite supports AI-based applications such as predictive maintenance and visual inspection, which can help reduce downtime and improve production quality. In the latest version, the Industrial AI Suite also supports AI model retraining by allowing users to combine image data with production data from MES systems or controllers.
SCADA monitoring and data acquisition can now be deployed in a decentralized way through Industrial Edge. WinCC Unified is now generally available, and WinCC Open Architecture is now available as an Edge App and for the virtual PLC (SIMATIC S7-1500v).
Security for critical infrastructure
Siemens Industrial Edge Management version 2.0 includes a redesigned user interface, along with updates to data management and security for distributed infrastructures. The platform now also supports additional hypervisors such as OpenShift and Hyper-V, allowing Siemens Industrial Edge to run on existing IT infrastructures. This is intended to support IT and OT requirements. IEC 62443-4-2-certified security functions for critical infrastructures, including air-gapped operation in which systems are physically isolated from external networks, are planned for release in the second half of 2026 and are intended to strengthencybersecurity. The platform’s security and data management features were evaluated by UL Solutions, which awarded Siemens Industrial Edge and the virtual PLC the "Smart Systems Verified – Platinum" certification. The evaluation covered six categories: connectivity and interoperability, control and automation, digital experience, functional value, resilience and cybersecurity.
Data management updates with Industrial Information Hub
Siemens Industrial Information Hub has been updated. The data management solution support bidirectional data flow, allowing data models to be synchronized between edge devices and central IT systems in both directions. This supports additional IT/OT integration use cases. The new version of the Industrial Information Hub is available on ARM-based devices such as the SIMATIC IOT2050, which can operate on battery power. LTE-based wireless networking is planned for a future release. Because of its low power consumption, edge applications can also be deployed in locations without permanent power supply. These updates may be relevant for decentralized SCADA applications in logistics, water and waste management and renewable energy.
New partner solutions are being added to the Industrial Edge ecosystem, including work with 36Zero Vision, MVTec, Basler and OnLogic in machine vision, quality inspection and ruggedized edge computing.
