ABB has introduced ABB SPR2025, a new Symphony Plus distributed control system (DCS) package release for process and power industries. The release supports upgrades for existing installations as well as new deployments.
SPR2025 is intended to support updates to industrial operations, whether upgrading existing Harmony Rack-based systems with reduced downtime or deploying new automation features for new projects. Online upgrades, expanded operating system and virtualization support, conversion tools and a defined migration path are intended to help customers in industries such as power, water, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals and pulp and paper plan and carry out upgrades based on operational requirements, with the goal of maintaining system reliability and reducing operational risk.
Symphony Plus supports communications e and data integration across distributed operations. With system-wide OPC UA, an Ethernet backbone and support for smart field devices using FDI technology, the system provides secure, standards-based connectivity for communication between different devices and platforms.
The inclusion of Automation Extended functionality using a separation of concerns architecture allows Symphony Plus customers to implement automation and digital applications with reduced impact on existing operations. By separating control and digital environments, users can deploy system performance monitoring, analytics and AI-based decision support applications while preserving core control system operation and security.
