Yaskawa Electric America Inc. (YEA) held a grand opening May 10 for its new North American headquarters here. The structure represents a significant milestone for the 84-year-old, $2-billion parent company, Yaskawa Electric Corp. The 20-acre campus gives YEA room to grow in the future and supports the company’s new “World of Automation Solutions” identity.
The headquarters complex is part of YEA’s increased presence and is meant to convey an image of product and service dependability. YEA’s servo controllers typically provide in excess of 400 K hr mean time between failures (MTBF) and its motors deliver >1 M hr MTBF.
The facility contains engineering offices, development labs (with dynamometer load testing capacity up to 250 hp), training rooms, industry/technology suites (product showrooms), and other corporate departments.
Yaskawa’s main technology areas include machine/motion controllers, servos, inverters, and CNCs. Robots are manufactured by YEA’s Motoman subsidiary. Production (assembly and testing) of inverters in the 0.4-160 kW range (230/460 V) and CNC systems is done here. Other manufacturing activities will also move to this site.
“The new headquarters complex represents a commitment to customers. From this base, Yaskawa intends to become the No. 1 automation products supplier in the U.S.,” says Norie Matsuno, YEA’s president and ceo. “In essence it represents our genuine commitment to the future.”
The grand opening concluded with toasts after the obligatory breaking open of a huge 72-liter cask of sake in the traditional kagamiwari ceremony.
