Several existing and new growth markets should propel microcontroller chip sales to $20 billion in 2003 from $12 billion in 1998, according to a Aug. 19 report by Cypress Information Resources. “Microcontroller Market and Applications Report” states these markets include Internet-enabled microcontrollers for a wide range of applications, such as industrial control equipment, portable instruments, household appliances, toys, medical equipment, automobile emission inspection equipment, e-commerce cash cards, and alarm and security systems.
