Next generation platform for C/C++ development tools released

Next generation Eclipse CFT platform for building C/C++ development tools is now available, the Eclipse Foundation (www.eclipse.org) announced. Developed under the leadership of QNX Software (www.qnx.com), CDT 3.0 delivers improved scalability, performance, and extensibility to developers targeting embedded systems and Linux environments.

Next generation Eclipse CFT platform for building C/C++ development tools is now available, the Eclipse Foundation ( www.eclipse.org ) announced. Developed under the leadership of QNX Software ( www.qnx.com ), CDT 3.0 delivers improved scalability, performance, and extensibility to developers targeting embedded systems and Linux environments. CDT has been adopted as the C/C++ tools platform for numerous embedded system and Linux operating system vendors, including IBM, Intel, Novell SUSE, PalmSource, QNX, Texas Instruments, and TimeSys. The Eclipse Foundation is an open-source community working for implementation of a universal development platform.

New CDT 3.0 features include:

  1. Faster parsing—Improved performance results in faster and more accurate searches;

  2. DOM (document object model)-based language backend—Upgrade includes a more powerful language model in the form of a DOM for more accessibility for plug-in developers;

  3. Indexer selection—Source indexes are now pluggable components; and

  4. Enhanced managed build system configuration—New version offers full control over the output artifact and extension, pre- and post-build command execution, and per-project and configuration environment variable settings.

“The scalability, performance, and extensibility of CDT 3.0 are cornerstone achievements for the Eclipse community,” said Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation. “Having a powerful platform for building C/C++ tools that is widely used and adopted is an important component of Eclipse’s strategy for providing a universal development for tools integration.
