Mansfield, Mass. - Axeda Systems Inc. January 16, 2002 announced collaboration with Nokia to deliver solutions with Universal Wireless Connectivity. This will bring together the Nokia M2M Platform and the Axeda Device Relationship Management System. The combined solution will enable businesses in multiple markets to offer automated monitoring, management, service, and re-supply of remote and mobile devices via wireless communications and the Internet.
By utilizing the Nokia M2M Platform, Axeda will offer customers affordable, reliable wireless access anywhere they deploy devices, both inside and outside facilities. Using GSM technology to enable the broadest coverage, the Nokia M2M Platform offers rapid deployment, flexibility and security with delivery of data and 24x7 hardware reliability.
'Nokia envisions a world where data traffic from devices becomes a significant element of the wireless network,' said Jukka Kuusinen, general manager, M2M Business, Nokia Mobile Phones. 'Axeda is leading the market in providing enterprise software solutions that enable companies to exploit this new source of real-time data to optimize their business operations. Together we can offer a solution which has a good potential to capture a significant segment of the emerging wireless data management market.'
The Nokia M2M Platform is an environment for facilitating man-to-machine and machine-to-machine communications between devices and Internet-hosted applications utilizing GSM technology. The Nokia solution includes embedded communications and gateway products that allow devices to transmit between wireless networks and the Internet. The Axeda Device Relationship Management System, a distributed enterprise software solution, lets businesses use the Internet to monitor, manage and service these devices deployed at remote sites.
'Nokia enables us to extend the reach of Device Relationship Management to whole new classes of devices that were previously unreachable by conventional wired networks,' said Dale Calder, president of Axeda. 'Our collaboration enables significant opportunities in wireless business services helping companies derive new value from the devices in use everyday.'
Businesses will now be able to use Axeda Device Relationship Management System to provide continuous, direct communications between their enterprise systems or personnel and off-network or mobile machines, devices, and equipment in markets including industrial, medical, office, point-of-sale, vending and transportation. This lets manufacturers stay in touch with their products throughout their lifecycle, tapping the value of hidden information with new, automated e-service and e-commerce offerings.
