Invensys plc appointed Bruce Henderson Sept. 9 as chief executive of its Intelligent Automation Division. He replaces George Sarney, who is retiring from Invensys to chair Bowthorpe plc.
Mr. Henderson joined Invensys in 1995 as Robertshaw Controls’ president and was chosen in 1997 to run the group’s appliance controls business. He was appointed Invensys Controls Division’s chief executive in February 1999. Before joining Invensys, Mr. Henderson held senior positions at TRW Inc., McKinsey & Co., and Raytheon.
“We support Dr. Sarney’s appointment as chairman of Bowthorpe. During his seven-year tenure with this group, Dr. Sarney’s contribution has been immense. He has overseen strategic change and sales growth in our Intelligent Automation Division and I have no doubt his skills will be of great benefit to Bowthorpe,” says Allen Yurko, Invensys’ chief executive. “Bruce Henderson has a proven track record at the Controls Division and is well-placed to lead the Intelligent Automation Division through its next development phase.”
Eight units in sensor firm
In other news, Robert Sawyer, president of Invensys Sensors and Aerospace (North Plain City, O.), a division of Invensys Controls, unveiled Invensys Sensor Systems on Sept. 3. The new company combines eight previously autonomous parts of BTR and Siebe, which merged to create Invensys in February 1999. The eight components are Elmwood Sensors, Fenwal Electronics, Fasco Controls Corp., Electro Corp., SenSym, Foxboro/ICT; Deutsche Ranco, and Clarostat.
Together the eight former units will improve global coverage, breadth of technology, and integrate sensing and control functions. Invensys Sensor Systems designs and manufactures thermal, speed, position, and pressure sensors and controls. The new company has also invested in several technologies, such as Spiral noncontacting position sensing and media isolated pressure transducers.
C.E. (Gene) Brewer, vp and gm, will lead Invensys Sensor Systems. Mr. Brewer was most recently Fasco Controls’ president and will continue to work from its offices in Shelby, N.C.
