Agile Robots, Averna, Flowserve and SPX Flow are among 18 mergers, acquisitions and capital placement activities related to automation, according to a December update from Bundy Group, an investment bank and advisory firm that specializes in the automation segment. The transactions involve automation, control systems, digital twins, flow control, mechatronics, pumps, robotics and other technologies.
The Bundy Group said that the automation market continues to experience many mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and capital markets activities. Drivers of this activity include the growth-oriented nature of the automation market, the consolidation opportunities within the industry and the strength of many of the companies operating within it. The automation market has attracted a critical mass of strategic buyers and financial sponsors (private-equity groups, family offices, institutional investors) that seek to own or invest in the industry. From such Bundy Group closed automation transactions as CITI System Integrators and Ultimation, and the team continues to see strong interest from a range of qualified buyers in the automation segment. Levine Leichtman Capital Partners acquired USA Industries, Dec. 16
Levine Leichtman Capital Partners acquired USA Industries, a manufacturer of industrial flow control and testing products including piping isolation tools, tube plugs and flow devices. Founded in 1982 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, USA Industries serves pharmaceutical, industrial, refinery and chemical markets with rapid product delivery.
Detroit Manufacturing Systems acquired Android Industries and Avancez, Dec. 12
Detroit Manufacturing Systems acquired Android Industries and Avancez, forming Voltava, a global manufacturing and complex module assembly partner serving automotive, industrial, e-mobility, heavy truck and tooling customers. Headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and led by Bruce Smith, the company operates 21 locations with contract manufacturing, sequencing, automation and tooling design capabilities.
Medallion Capital sold investment in Reel Power International, Dec. 11
Medallion Capital exited its investment in Reel Power International, a designer of engineered reeling, coiling and material-handling equipment for industrial applications. The exit concludes a long-term partnership supporting plant-floor automation equipment.
NTT Group, QIA, Mitsubishi HC Capital Realty and Salesforce Ventures funded Mujin, Dec. 8
Mujin has raised $233 million in Series D funding (first close), including $133 million equity led by NTT Group and QIA with participation from Mitsubishi HC Capital Realty and Salesforce Ventures, plus $100 million debt financing. The global automation leader will accelerate adoption of MujinOS, its intelligent robotics platform, and advance real-time digital twin, motion planning and orchestration technologies for manufacturing and logistics.
Berkshire Partners acquired United Flow Technologies, Dec. 8
H.I.G. Capital has sold United Flow Technologies to Berkshire Partners, retaining a minority stake to support growth. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, UFT provides process equipment, pumps, flow control, and automation/control systems for municipal and industrial water/wastewater markets. The company offers technical expertise and comprehensive solutions for reliable water systems, built through H.I.G.-era acquisitions expanding products and geography.
ITT Inc. agreed to acquire SPX Flow (Lone Star Funds), Dec. 5
ITT signed a definitive agreement to acquire SPX Flow, a provider of pumps, valves, mixers and other process technologies. The deal broadens ITT’s industrial process equipment portfolio with plant-critical automation components.
Center Rock Capital Partners acquired GHSP, Dec. 5
Center Rock Capital Partners has acquired GHSP, a provider of mechatronic systems, smart actuators and electronic controls primarily serving the automotive market. Founded in 1924 and headquartered in Holland, Michigan, GHSP designs and manufactures precision shift systems, actuators and integrated controls for OEMs, enhancing vehicle performance, safety, and user interfaces, with extensions into premium appliances.
Astec Industries agreed to acquire CWMF Corp., Dec. 4
Astec Industries has signed a definitive agreement to acquire CWMF Corp., a U.S. manufacturer of portable and stationary asphalt plant equipment and parts with a strong presence in the Midwest, South-Central, and Great Lakes regions. CWMF designs and builds complete asphalt plants and related components such as drums, silos, tanks, conveyors, baghouses and control systems, and provides parts and services to optimize overall plant performance.
Spherea acquired Averna, Dec. 3
Spherea has acquired Averna, a provider of test and quality solutions for smart manufacturing, automated test systems, in-line testing with vision, robotics, precision assembly, and RF/microwave/fiber optics applications across industries. The strategic consolidation, backed by Andera Partners with reinvestment from Walter Capital and management, expands test and quality engineering systems integration capabilities. It was expected to close by end of December 2025.
The Tecan Group acquired Wako Automation assets, Dec. 2
Tecan Group acquired Wako Automation assets, including Director scheduling software and select hardware modules, completed on Dec. 1. This expands Tecan’s laboratory automation beyond liquid-handling with advanced scheduling for complex workflows and robotic workcells, building on the FlowPilot software licensed from Wako. The acquisition integrates these capabilities with platforms like Fluent.
Union Square Ventures, Fundomo & Neo funds Tutor Intelligence, Dec. 1
Tutor Intelligence has raised $34 million in Series A funding, led by Union Square Ventures with participation from Fundomo and Neo, bringing total capital to $42 million. The company develops an AI-powered fleet of warehouse robot workers with a central intelligence platform for consumer packaged goods (CPG) operations. Funds will accelerate robot commercialization, scale deployments and advance new robot form factors and capabilities.
IQ Capital and Zacua Ventures funds Gravis Robotics, Nov. 28
Gravis Robotics, a Zurich-based startup founded in 2022, has raised $23 million to convert heavyweight construction machines into autonomous robots addressing labor shortages. Led by IQ Capital and Zacua Ventures with participation from Pear VC, Imad, Sunna Ventures, Armada Investment and Holcim, the funds will expand operations in the U.K., U.S., and EU while building more machines and forging construction partnerships.
Agile Robots acquired thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering, Nov. 24
Agile Robots has acquired assets of thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering in Europe and North America, previously part of thyssenkrupp AG’s Automotive Technology segment. The Munich-based company strengthens its AI-powered robotic solutions with thyssenkrupp’s technological expertise, customer relationships and automotive industry experience. This positions Agile Robots to expand smart automation and tap new growth markets.
Vessco Water acquired Atlantic Fluid Technology, Nov. 21
Vessco Water has acquired Atlantic Fluid Technology, a provider of engineering-driven solutions and equipment for municipal and industrial water and wastewater, power, utility, infrastructure, pumping, process equipment, valve, flow-control and flood-control applications. Founded in 1995 and based in Northborough, Massachusetts, Atlantic Fluid Technology works with consulting engineers, contractors, and end users, and designs and tests control panels, actuators and valves while maintaining an extensive inventory of valves and related components.
GS Futures, Kakao Ventures, Lightscape Partners fund Parallax Worlds, Nov. 20
Parallax Worlds has raised $4 million in seed funding, led by Pear VC with participation from GS Futures, Kakao Ventures, Lightscape Partners, and others including prior backers like Conviction, Unusual Ventures and Boost VC. The company builds hyper-realistic simulations for stress-testing robots in digital twins of factories, warehouses, homes, and outdoors before deployment. This addresses slow, expensive transitions from pilot to production by enabling validation without hardware risks.
Inframark acquired Dmytryka Jacobs Engineers, Nov. 20
Inframark acquired Dmytryka Jacobs Engineers, a firm founded in 1994 in Toledo, Ohio, that designs and implements instrumentation and control systems for municipal water and wastewater clients. DJE also provides electrical and automation system design services across Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. This acquisition bolsters Inframark’s Automation & Intelligence group, expanding its Midwest presence and solutions portfolio.
IMD Group acquired MMC Packaging, Oct. 31
IMD Group acquired MMC Packaging from TekniPlex, in a transaction signed on Oct. 31. MMC Packaging, focused on North American markets, gains global expansion opportunities through IMD Group’s international presence. The acquisition combines strengths from joint projects, expands IMD’s product portfolio, and enables innovation for both companies.
Circor International (KKR) acquired Flowserve’s herringbone gear pump line, Oct. 8
Circor International acquired Flowserve’s herringbone gear pump product line, including GAX, GR and Gearex Series pumps. The KKR portfolio company will integrate these into its IMO portfolio to fill gaps in chemical processing, power generation and general industry markets. The pumps handle high-viscosity fluids, elevated temperatures and critical applications with stainless steel construction and dry-running capability.
