Micro Single Analyzer Module (SAM) on-line process gas chromatograph from Siemens Applied Automation, a business of Siemens Energy & Automation Inc., features miniature size; valveless live injection with software-adjustable injection volume; maintenance-free column switching; and electronic pressure control; as well as accurate measurements performed by multiple parallel micro-detectors.
MicroSAM’s explosion-proof enclosure contains everything required for separation and detection of the measured sample integrated into the space of a small saucer. The device also includes complete Maxum Analyzer Network capabilities, which allow multiple MicroSAM analyzers to be connected with Ethernet for simultaneous analysis of several process streams.
This means that MicroSAM uses a thermal conductivity detector array integrated on silicon to measure all column and vent flows as well as the injection peak itself; can be mounted directly at the sample extraction point because only a single auxiliary gas and very little electrical power is required; and has simple remote control with Windows-based software and Ethernet communication.
The compact (36 x 23 cm) MicroSAM was developed using silicon micro-machining techniques to facilitate miniaturization, while simultaneously increasing power and versatility. With extremely low power consumption (maximum 50 V A at 24 V dc) explosion protection for zone 1 and permissible ambient temperatures of -20 °C to +50 °C, the instrument can be installed directly at the sample extraction point under a sun and rain cover. It communicates via Ethernet to a PC, other chromatographs, or process control systems. www.sea.siemens.com
