EC: IndraDrive ML modular universal inverter
Motion Control — Drives, motor control centers: IndraDrive ML is a modular universal inverter, used as a mains inverter or motor inverter. Power ranges from 110 kW up to 4 MW by connecting units in parallel. This is a Control Engineering 2017 Engineers’ Choice Awards Finalist.
Rexroth’s IndraDrive ML is unique because of the modular universal inverter. The same hardware can be used as motor inverter or mains inverter with energy-recovery function. This minimizes the number of variants, simplifies handling, and reduces storage costs and energy consumption.
The IndraDrive ML is powerful, flexible and intelligent. There is no need for different software or firmware to obtain the features of Rexroth’s full IndraDrive platform.
Another advantage is its high power density. The compact design minimizes the installation space required in the control cabinet with individual unit outputs of 110 to 500 kW and the ability of parallel connection for a system output of up to 4 MW.
The IndraDrive ML is energy efficient, with mains regenerative power, Smart Energy Mode, dc links (or dc bus sharing) for lowering the average energy consumption, reduction in peak grid loads, and reduction in power loss in the control cabinet.
It has performance control units with intelligent firmware. Control sections with integrated IEC 61131-3 PLC control functions are available if specific tasks are needed for specific axes. Multi-protocol capable hardware, such as Sercos, Profinet IO, EtherNet/IP, and EtherCat, plus PROFIBUS and CANopen, allow the IndraDrive ML to connect to virtually any control. Additionally, multi-encoder allows it to connect to different motor feedback or 3rd party motors and reduce hardware variants.
Certified safety technology and extremely short response times of the large electric drives from Rexroth are proof of what modern safety technology can do to protect man, machine, and work pieces, as all motions are monitored right from where they start, in the drive. The Safe Torque Off and Safe Motion functions can also be implemented, depending on requirements.
