Eclipse Model 707 is reported to be the first two-wire, loop-powered, radar level meter that can measure both upper liquid level and a liquid-liquid interface below it. This situation is typically found in hydrocarbon condensate/water interfaces. The 707 uses time-domain reflectometry, which sends high-frequency pulses down a wave guide.
Part of the signal is reflected at the first interface and part at the second interface. By measuring the time of both reflections, and by compensating for the signal speed of travel through the upper liquid layer, both liquid interfaces can be accurately determined.
The instrument delivers a 4-20 mA output for the liquid interface level and a HART digital signal for both levels. www.magnetrol.com
