A new Web site promises to save apparel and retail customers time and money selecting a product life-cycle management (PLM) solution.
A new Web site promises to save apparel makers time and money selecting a product life-cycle management (PLM) solution by allowing users to compare the available technology to assess and select the right PLM solution based on their actual requirements.
The Product Development Partnership Ltd . (PDP), the team behind the formation of WhichPLM , comprises independent PLM/PDM (product data management) experts in the apparel sector with more than 20 years developing, selling, and implementing systems.
As Mark Harrop, founder and director of PDP and an apparel PLM industry expert, explains, “As an independent consultancy, we work hard on behalf of our clients to get the best deal possible when it comes to helping them select the right PLM solution. With the increasing number of vendors now branching out into the PLM apparel market, we help guide customers through the‘assessment and selection maze’ so that they can make the best choice of solution that is completely right for their requirements and budget.”
Harrop adds that there are approximately 60 suppliers of PLM solutions to the apparel industry—all claiming to be the industry leader. Add to this the fact that PLM is a concept that needs to be implemented at an enterprisewide level, thereby requiring significant investment relative to the size of the organization. All solutions featured on the WhichPLM Web site reportedly have been evaluated and scored not just on product functionality, but also on technical and commercials aspects.
“This very process will provide customers with accurate information on each PLM supplier. With WhichPLM, we are building a truly independent source of information that customers can trust, enabling them to compare PLM suppliers from facts and not marketing spin,” says Harrop.
