“You are limited only by your creativity and the drive to make it happen,’ stated Ross Perot in a keynote address at the Robot & Vision Conference here May 11-13. The biggest challenge for companies handling success is to avoid becoming complacent, he added.

Calling creative people a “precious resource,” Mr. Perot told attendees to diligently find and keep these people, reward them promptly when deserved, and listen to team members’ ideas. When someone has a good idea, Mr. Perot added they should put in charge of a team to make it happen. If that person lacks leadership experience, he suggested assigning an experienced leader and putting the person with the idea in a prime support role on the team.

In other news at the conference, the Robotics Industry Association and the Automated Imaging Association announced the formation of an umbrella association, the Automation Technology Council. The council will coordinate activities of the two trade associations and will add other associations. Financial data showed that industry sales slowed or decreased for the industries during 1998, though sales rebounded in 1Q99.
